GMA Training Program – Security Management for Country Directors (sample course)

This course prepares GMA’s Country Directors to manage security in their country programmes.

Course description:

As a GMA Country Director you play a key role in balancing staff security with programme criticality, whilst always considering the duty of care we owe our staff and others. This course will build your skills to be able to do that. 

How you will learn:

The course is made up of short daily chunks of learning spread over a number of weeks. You will have access to videos, reading, podcasts, discussion groups and knowledge checks. You will be expected to complete weekly assignments demonstrating your knowledge of the weekly topics.

Your trainer:

Your trainer will be Ian Woodmansey. Ian has worked in the humanitarian and development worlds since the mid-1990s and has held numerous field, HQ, and consultancy positions with organisations ranging from Oxfam, Medicines sans Frontiers, ICRC, Mercy Corps, GIZ, Tearfund, and others. He was Country Director for RedR UK in Pakistan and South Sudan, and served for a number of years as RedR’s Global Security Manager and Lead Security Trainer. 

Ian has been training on security and crisis management since 2011. He has an MSc in Development Studies, is a member of the Security Institute, an Associate Member of the Business Continuity Institute, and a Professional Member of the Institute of Operational Risk.
